About David

David Carr is a native Staten Islander who currently serves as Chief of Staff to New York City Council Minority Leader Steven Matteo. David has been a focal point of the Mid-Island Council office from the start of the Minority Leader’s tenure in 2014 and handles a broad range of issues from constituent and community matters to moving legislation in City Hall. In less than seven years, David helped negotiate the 23 of Minority Leader Matteo’s bills that became law, which is a record for a Staten Island Council Member.

A lifelong resident of Grasmere, David attended St. Christopher’s Preschool, PS 48, and the former St.John Villa Academy for elementary and middle school. David went on to graduate from Monsignor Farrell High School and the prestigious Georgetown University.

David has had a lifelong passion for government and politics and began getting involved in campaigns at the tender age of 10 years old by stuffing mailings and doing literature drops for Guy Molinari’s final run for Borough President. He continued to be involved in races over the years and decided to dedicate his professional life to bettering his community through political action. After being staff on campaigns for two years, David began working in government doing constituent services in the United States House of Representatives. David eventually became the Chief of Staff to newly elected Assemblyman Joseph Borelli before taking on that role for Steven Matteo.

During his years as a staffer, David always kept up his commitment to the Republican Party and has worked a number of campaigns to get his fellow Republicans elected or re-elected to public office. He has also been an active member of the Staten Island Republican Party’s County Committee (SIGOP) since 2009 and its Executive Committee since 2012. He is a former President of the Richmond County Young Republicans and First Vice-Chair of the SIGOP.

I have always felt public service was my calling, and I want to use that hands-on experience to give our community the strong, results-driven representation it deserves

Happy Thanksgiving! May you and your families have a safe and enjoyable holiday with your loved ones.

Cop shot at in my district, right before Thanksgiving. As someone who reps a high-crime district, will always be grateful for the @NYPDnews. While “politicians” who live in crime-free neighborhoods attack them for corny political points, cops risk their lives to keep us safe.

I stopped by Island Auto Group earlier today as they announced they had raised $14,000 for food pantries on #StatenIsland. What a great way to kick off the season of giving by Marcello and his team.

I strongly opposed this legislation during the campaign alongside @JoeBorelliNYC and @MikeTannousis . Voting is a right of citizenship and extending it to those who are not is just wrong. #noncitizenvoting 1/2

I strongly opposed this legislation during the campaign alongside Council Member Joseph Borelli and Assemblyman Michael Tannousis. Voting is a right of citizenship and extending it to those who are not is just wrong. This eleventh hour push to profoundly change our elections by a lame-duck Council ...shows that radical progressives can’t abide having an electorate that rejects their agenda.
